Expectations from Owner
To safeguard your animals health, there are several procedures the owner must follow. Anytime your pet is going in for surgery, please follow these guidelines:
- No food after 10:00 p.m. prior to surgery; water is fine
- Must be up-to-date on vaccines
- Your pet must be dropped off at the office between 9:00-10:00 a.m.; depending on the procedure, your pet will either go home that afternoon between 4-4:30 p.m. or other wise discussed
- If you cannot make your scheduled appointment please call ahead of time, preferably 24 hours, to reschedule.
- Incision has to be kept clean and dry
- Sutures need to be removed 10-14 days after surgery
- Depending on the surgery, the doctor might administer antibiotics
- For any surgical procedure, we recommend bloodwork to ensure your pet is healthy enough to withstand anesthesia
- Surgery can be very painful, therefore we highly recommend pain medication to keep your beloved pet as comfortable as possible
- Activity has to be restricted ( no jumping, playing, swimming, etc.) until sutures are removed.
